Why this notice is short

This site is static. It embeds no analytics tools, no advertising networks, no external fonts, no maps, no videos and no social-network buttons. No profiles are built and no data is passed on to third parties.

What is processed nonetheless is set out in full in the following sections.

Visiting the site

When you load a page, your browser transmits technically necessary information to the server: IP address, date and time, the requested address, the referrer, browser identifier and operating system. Without this information no connection can be established and no page can be delivered.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest lies in the technical provision of the site and the defence against attacks. The data is not evaluated for advertising or analytics purposes.

Hosting

The site runs on a rented server (virtual private server) operated by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. The server is located in a data centre in Spain and therefore within the European Union; no transfer to a third country takes place.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with IONOS. IONOS processes the data arising when a connection is established solely to provide the server and on instruction.

Encryption and certificates

The connection is encrypted throughout with TLS, as shown by the padlock in the address bar. The certificates are issued automatically by Let’s Encrypt (Internet Security Research Group, USA). No personal data of visitors is transmitted in the process — only the domain name.

Cookies

The public pages set no cookies. Consent is therefore not required, and there is no cookie banner.

The exception is an internal, password-protected area under /zenfactory/: after a successful login, a single technically necessary cookie is set that only remembers the login. It contains no name, no identifier and no link to a person, but a checksum, and is not evaluated. Legal basis: Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) in conjunction with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

ZenFactory — the public reference plant

An application runs under /zenfactory/ that displays machine data from a simulated factory. To do so it calls only an interface on the same server. No data about you is collected, stored or passed on to third parties; the plant data shown comes from a simulation and not from real individuals or customers.

Getting in touch

If you write to me or call me, I process the information you provide in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries relating to a contract, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

There is no contact form on this site. An enquiry by email is stored in my mailbox for as long as it is needed to handle it and is then deleted — unless statutory commercial or tax retention periods require otherwise.

Links to other providers

The site links to LinkedIn, GitHub and ORCID. These services are not embedded — no connection to them is made unless you click the link. Only then does the respective provider’s privacy policy apply. In the case of LinkedIn, a transfer to the USA may take place.

Retention

Server-side connection data is kept only for as long as is necessary for operation and security, and is then deleted or shortened. The login cookie of the internal area expires after one year or as soon as you delete it in your browser.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR). An informal request to the email address above is sufficient.

You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
